The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The next best time is now.
Tree planting is trendy, but being trendy isn’t always a bad thing. Native broadleaf trees are essential to wildlife of all shapes and sizes, from fungi and micromoths, to songbirds and hedgehogs. Trees can help to stabilise soil, create microclimates that buffer temperature and humidity, offer shade and shelter to livestock, and provide food and living spaces for a host of other species.
Our expanding range of native broadleaves is grown from seed we have harvested and processed ourselves on the farm, which in some cases involves stratifying the seed for two winters before it even germinates. Seeds are sown in pots and trays on our sheltered propagation tables, and planted out into our tree nursery beds as soon as they are big enough to handle.
Most of our trees are sold at one year old, with some two year old trees available next year. Find more information about what we currently have available here.
We harvest, process and stratify all our own seed on site
All our seed is collected hyper locally, primarily from our own organic land, and sometimes from organic certified farms literally just over the road
Detailed record keeping systems enable full seed to plant traceability
All our trees are certified organic in-conversion, and from May 2025 will have full organic status
