Welcome to our nursery. This is where we grow healthy organic plants for edible gardens.
We started the nursery after finding out first hand how difficult it is to buy organic trees, bushes and herbs. We now produce a range of soft fruit plants, walnut trees, rhubarb crowns and potted herbs. Our soft fruit, including gooseberries, redcurrants and blackcurrants, is all propagated from cuttings taken from our own mother plants. Rhubarb is grown from seed, and walnuts are grafted with varieties suited to the UK climate. We also have a small range of native broadleaf trees grown from seed harvested on the farm.

The majority of our plants are supplied bare root, grown in living organic soil, undersown with green manures, and lifted to order. We also have some potted plants to extend the season, grown in peat free, organic approved compost.
Our potted plants are available at our weekly markets.
We are now taking pre orders for bare root soft fruit plants, which will be available when dormant, from late November 2025.
Soft fruit plants – variety information for pre-orders

Gooseberries
Hinnomaki Red
Hinnomaki Red has delicious large dark red fruit on a more upright bush. A reliable mid season variety. Mildew resistant, self fertile. Bred in Finland.
Hinnomaki Yellow
Hinnomaki Yellow, perhaps unsurprisingly, has yellow fruits with a distinctive flavour, which ripen in July. The plants are vigorous and spreading. Mildew resistant, self fertile. Bred in Finland.
Captivator
Captivator is a virtually spine-free variety, which makes picking and pruning much less painful! The fruits are purple-red, sweet, and ripen in late July. Captivator has a somewhat straggly, spreading habit, and is not as productive as the spiny varieties. Mildew resistant, self fertile.
Invicta
Invicta is a very productive modern variety with green fruits that are suitable for both dessert and culinary use. Vigorous spreading bush. Holds an RHS Award of Merit, bred at East Malling. Early/mid season. Mildew resistant, self fertile.

Redcurrants
Jonkeer van Tets
Jonkeer is a modern Dutch variety, which is high yielding, with masses of red translucent berries. A relatively early variety, ripening in late June – early July. Hold an RHS Award of Garden Merit. Self fertile, frost resistant.
Rovada
Another Dutch variety. Reliable, heavy cropping, with good flavour. A later fruiting variety, ripening in late July or early August. Self fertile, frost resistant.

Blackcurrants
Ben Hope
A vigorous, upright bush, mildew resistant and frost hardy. Ben Hope is a modern variety bred by the Scottish Crop Research Institute. It is relatively late season, fruiting July – August, with very tasty berries. Self fertile.
Ben Conan
A fairly compact, early/mid season modern variety bred by the Scottish Crop Research Institute. This variety is mildew resistant, and very frost hardy, so it could suit a cold spot. The fruits are very large. Self fertile. RHS Award of Garden Merit.

Jostaberry
Big, bold and vigorous, a blackcurrant gooseberry combo. Mildew resistant. Spine free.
